GLUG Meet Sunday, 20 July 2008

Talks:
- Ruby Programming by Prashant Shah.
Prashant described the basics of Ruby programming languages along with describing features unique to it. Building blocks of ruby were demonstrated with the help of examples.
- Enterprise Resource Planning Solutions based on Open Source ideology by Sameep
ERP solutions, are used to enhance productivity of enterprises so as to enable smooth integrated functioning of various business processes within an organization. ERP solution is a step towards integration of business processes in an organization. Sameep described the modular design, the benefits of ERP, the various packages available, both proprietary and open-source, the advantages of opting for an open source solution as against the proprietary one. He also described the process of implementation of ERP solutions for most enterprises. The session was ended with a set of screenshots demonstrating a 'typical' ERP installation (OpenBravo ERP package)

- iManager - Personal Investment Manager - Qt based application (Demo) by Mr. Rajen
Mr. Rajen, is a Linux hobbyist and is learning the Qt toolkit while developing an application to manage, report and analyze, the portfolio of investments for members of a family. He demonstrated a 'pre-alpha' or 'alpha' version of his software which included modules handling different types of investments for an individual.
